Movie world didnt start out has a stand alone theme park when it was built in 1990, It all started with the village roadshow studios a set of film studios  village studios had 9 sound stages and many more filming facilities, The studios have been home to many tv programs and films over the years, Village Roadshow Pictures is one of the leading independent film companies in the world, having won 17 Academy Awards and 4 Golden Globe Awards for films including Mad Max: Fury Road, American Sniper, The Great Gatsby, and Happy Feet. Since its inception in 1997, Village Roadshow Pictures has produced and released 95 films with global box office taking over US $17 billion including blockbuster hits such as The Matrix trilogy, the Ocean's trilogy, The Lego Movie and San Andreas.

So how did Movie world come about? Well in 1989 Mr Wood was employed to design a theme park close to Warner Roadshow, Mr Wood had a history of designing great parks which included  Freedomland, Six flags over texas, Heritage Square  and Disneyland,

Warner Bros Movie World took 2 years to build and finally opened 3rd June 1991 the $120 million theme park  and featured a fully operational movie studio and rides and was expected to take around 13,000 people a day.

celebrities  filled the park for opening, Leading the charge was Hollywood superstar Clint Eastwood who arrived right in time to celebrate his 61st birthday with a cruise on the Broadwater aboard a luxury catamaran. Actress Goldie Hawn & actor Kurt Russell.

No expense was spared for the 40-odd guests including Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell, Mel Gibson and his wife Robyn, Yahoo Serious and American film moguls from the Warner Bros Studios. The park opened with a movie studio tour Looney Tunes river ride and a ride i wish i could have gone on Warner Bros. Classics & Great Gremlins Adventure, 

In 1992 Batman adventure The Ride opened the motion simulator ride was based on the Tim Burton  Batman film.

From 1993 to 1994 no rides opened at the park 

1995 was the year when the first coaster hit the park Lethal Weapon a Vekoma SLC a off the shelf Vekoma themed around the film Lethal weapon, this got rethemed in 2012 to Arkham Asylum – Shock Therapy with new trains designed by Kumbak that made the ride a little more bearable.

No rides were added in 1996 adverts still showed off there newly opened Vekoma SLC and the 4 year old Batman the ride,

1997 saw a big cash injection into the park Looney Tunes land was renamed Looney Tunes Village and the park added some much needed new rides, Marvin the Martian's Rocket Ride, Taz Hollywood Cars Tweety and Sylvester Carousel and Yosemite Sam's Railroad all made by Zamperla, Marvin the martian in 3D show was added,

More investment was made in 1998 with the addition of the wild west falls, costing $18 million the ride was designed by Hopkins rides a company that was well known for building great log flumes around the world the first one being back in 1980 for Wonderland park, Wild west falls was massive so big the ride alone increased the park by a extra 20%, this ride was more then just a log flume it was an adventure with a 20 meter drop at the end.

Due to wild west falls opening so late in 1998 no other rides or shows were changed for the 1999 season,

2000 saw the relocation of the Looney Tunes Musical Revue to make room for the road runner coaster a $9 million coaster made by Vekoma the ride is still operating today.

In 2001 the park had been open for 10 years and for there anniversary the park worked with a radio station to invite 1000 guests to a live performance at the park, with artist such as Human Nature, and a Touch of class performing for the guests, Classics and the Gremlin ride closed, Batman Adventures was changed to Batman Adventures the ride 2 must have taken a long time to come up with that name, It wasnt just the name that changed the ride experience did to. A splash zone was added to Looney tunes village,And the last experience to open that year was Harry Potter Movie Magic which was a walk-through attraction where guests could see recreations of sets used on the movie. 2002 saw modification to update it to suit the second film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Scooby-Doo roller coaster also opened in 2002 a indoor Mack Rides wild mouse but this wasnt the standard off the shelf wild mouse, it was a custom coaster costing the park $13 million.

After just 2 seasons in 2003 Harry Potter Movie Magic was removed and replaced with The Official Matrix Exhibit, which allowed guests to immerse themselves in the world of the Matrix featuring props and costumes from the movies.

In 2004 devastation happened when a HUGE candle used in a fiery film scene was blamed for a blaze that completely destroy a sound stage at Movie World on the Gold Coast, leaving a multimillion-dollar damage bill. 

The fire on the set of House of Wax, burned out of control despite the presence of fire fighters, the candle was believed to have set other props alight, forcing actors, producers and crew members to flee sound stage eight.

In 2005, the Movie Magic Special Effects Show was replaced by Superman Escape  is an unprecedented rollercoaster ride experience which travels 0 - 100 kilometres in just 2 seconds! With 760 metres of vertical climbs, weightless drops, head spinning twists and giant G-force turns the Intamin accelerator coaster  forced the relocation of the Looney Tunes Musical Revue again. The Roxy Theatre was upgraded following the closure of Marvin the Martian in 3D which was replaced by Shrek 4D Adventure in September.

In 2006, the now-annual Halloween events began. and Batwing Spaceshot opened, The S&S shot tower shoots guests up 

200ft at 40mph, Is this a good time to say that i hate shot and drop towers, Ok so i will ride them but when I'm sat in the seat and ready to go i always think why did i do this,

In 2007, Matrix Exhibit was replaced by Intencity,  Looney Tunes Village was renamed to Kids WB Fun Zoneand  added  two new rides Looney Tunes Carousel and Sylvester's Pounce 'n' Bounce known to most people has a froghopper,

The glamorous world of Hollywood action film making is brought to life right before guests’ very eyes with the multimillion dollar Hollywood Stunt Driver Show.
Hollywood Stunt Driver opened on Boxing Day 2008 and immerses guests in a real-live action ‘working’ movie set. 
Incorporating breathtaking stunts, precision driving, incredible scenes of exhilarating action and the performance of a cast and crew with immeasurable talent, Hollywood Stunt Driver is a show filled with action packed extravaganza!
The action packed Hollywood Stunt Driver attraction, is located on the site formerly known as the Police Academy Stunt Show, which closed in 2008, after 18,000 incredible action-packed, fun filled, breathtaking performances over 16 years, to make way for this exciting new chapter. 
The brand-new purpose built and designed arena is the backdrop for what can only be described as brilliant blockbusting movie action from start to finish.For a full twenty minutes guests are taken on an incredible journey that’ll have them enthralled and entertained.

2009 Movie World decided to re-theme and rename  Halloween Family Fun Night event to Halloween Fright Nights in an attempt to target an older audience

The first White Christmas event was held in 2010 which  feature one million Christmas lights, Polar Express 4-D Experience, Looney Tunes on Ice, Ice Skating for guests, Christmas carol singers, snow and a Christmas Parade.

2011 Face the Steepest Drop in Australia on Movie World’s New GREEN LANTERN Coaster a S&S El loco! The gut wrenching new coaster was in a league of its own as riders face a heart pounding, blood curdling, 120 degree inverted drop, face forward hitting speeds of up to 66kmh and pulling 3.5Gs on hairpin bends and two crazy inverted spins.The coaster will also feature an Australian first on-board audio system

The worlds first justice league Alien invasion 3D ride opened in 2012 guests would face the most epic battle of their lives as they come under alien attack on this world-first Justice League-themed interactive ride which will feature a mix of state-of-the-art animatronics and 3D technology.One of the ride’s best features is that it’s very interactive, keeping track of each rider’s alien stun score so they can not only track their progress, but test their blasting skills against their fellow rider

2013 started building Mini Cars Driving School unfortunately the ride wasn't ready in time so had to open in 2014 also Hollywood stunt show driver was closed and was upgraded to Hollywood stunt driver 2.Warner Bros. Movie World won the prestigious Brass Ring Award for a Digital Marketing Campaign for the 2013 ‘Fright Nights’ Marketing campaign, by the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA).  The campaign generated a total of 38,403,005 impressions and 2,301,788 video impressions, proving to be one of Movie World’s most successful digital campaigns. 

Looney Tunes 4D opened at the Roxy Theatre replacing Rio: The 4D Experience which only opened the year before.

The centerpiece in 2016 is the new Intamin looping ride called Doomsday Destroyer, where the passengers are taken to a thrilling height of  21 meters. While the two passenger compartments – each holding 16 passengers – are rotating, the riders are experiencing g-forces up to 2.4g. The Suspended Twin Hammer consists of two giant arms, which reach an impressive top speed of 10 rpm.The park’s iconic Arkham Asylum coaster, which was developed in partnership with Warner Bros,  has launched with Virtual Reality transforming the ride into a 360-degree experience with the technology seamlessly syncing the physical attributions of the popular coaster with the visual to take guests on a multi-dimensional journey while reaching speeds of up to 85km/h and pulling 4.2Gs.With the addition of the Virtual Reality technology to the Arkham Asylum ride, which is inspired by Gotham City’s asylum in the world of DC’s Batman, guests can experience the synchronization of thrilling twists, turns and loops of the coaster with the virtual world of high-definition imagery and visuals created.

In June, plans for a $35m golf attraction with US entertainment company Topgolf were unveiled, with the facility set to open in late 2017.Spanning 6ha (15 acres) of land next to Movie World, Topgolf will be in the same precinct as a hotel and lake precinct.

The Southern Hemisphere’s greatest ever attraction, the DC Rivals HyperCoaster, is now open at Warner Bros. Movie World.
